Sydney trip
What a long day while waiting for a job offer. At the night of 25 March 2019, I jogged along Aldrich Bay promenade, coincidentally bumped into Johnny Chang, an ex-colleague from PCA. He has given me an idea to travel to Sydney. Next morning, Cathay Pacific was offering cheap air ticket, immediately I called my university lecturer, Dr Ng, who is doing research in the University of Sydney, asking for guidance. He offered to book hostel and made itinerary suggestions. As a result I bought ticket to depart on 2 April and return on 8 April.
The flight departed at 2355 on 2 April from Hong Kong, a 9-hour midnight flight. Could not sleep well on the plane. Upon touching down at 1200 local time, while feeling still sleepy and tired, Dr Ng immediately brought me to have lunch (Thai food) and walked around the city, covering The Rocks, opera house, china town, Hyde Park and Queen Victoria Building. Finished the day with an exhausted body and mind.
On 4 April, I traveled around by myself. Fist stop was to visit The University of Sydney, then Watson Bay, however dropped the plan to walk from Bondi Beach to Coogee because of downpour. In the afternoon, walked along Darling Harbour which has good scenic view of the city and harbour. At night, we took a bus to Newtown to have dinner.
It was raining in the morning of 5 April, half a day gone. and I just walked around the neighbourhood in the afternoon. At night, met my ex-boss (from UOB) at Townhall, he treated me a dinner and we walked around CBD, Darling Harbour, The Star Casino. It was a nice catch-up after 9 years I departed from UOB, both have diverse journey since then, one goes to Sydeny, another goes to Hong Kong. The sharing in life and work experience is always valuable.
6 April, Saturday morning, Dr Ng brought me to Featherdale Wildlife Park and Blue Mountains. These tourist spots are relatively more interesting than other places in the city. At Featherdale, tourists get chances to get close to animals and take photos with them. While we can get a sense of nature at the Blue Mountains. These have taken our whole day.
7 April, a relaxing day. We went to Fish Market in the morning without stopping for a meal as the prices are crazily expensive. Then next stop was Manly beach, then we went home to take a nap. At night, we had dinner with the Guesthouse's person-in-charge, Vince and Julie, for a dinner at a Korean Restaurant.
8 April, my flight departed at 10am therefore woke up in the early morning and left the Guesthouse. Experience at the Sydney airport was not really decent, ie long queue starting from the immigration, security check till boarding (was in a mess).
This city has been well-developed without much surprise, what you see from the photos are what you will get when you are there. Life is more peaceful, slower, albeit not efficient. The city is full of immigrants, walking down the street we can see half of the pedestrians are Asians. Traffic is good, and the drivers are tolerant to give way to pedestrians at crossing. However local people are not as civilised as I expected, ie many people put their legs on the seats in the public transport, vandalism and you can see drunk fellas on the street at night which adds concern when going out at night. Food is very expensive but limited choices for local food (I had 3x Thai food, 2x fish & chips, 1x Japanese, Korean, Malaysian and Lebanese food, 1x burger).
The tourist spots that I would recommend are Featherdale Wildlife Park and the Blue Mountains.
